This is a passion project of mine that took over one year to complete. I wanted to challenge my design abilities while also representing my love for the 80s inspired genre, Synthwave. With multiple iterations and revisions throughout the process, I was able to come to a result I was satisfied with. Allow me to take you through my creative process, as well as a journey to "1985."
This was my first attempt at converting it to a vector style graphic. I wasn't satisfied with the result and could see where it needed immense improvement pertaining to the style, layout, placement, and perspective.
As time progressed, I created multiple iterations:
This was the second to last iteration. Moving closer to finalization, however the alignment and positioning of the buildings still needed refinement. Also, I wanted to digitally paint the background, while also adding more depth and detail.
This is the final vector illustration of "Welcome to 1985." Overall, I would say this project helped me grow so much as a Designer. I learned that it's okay to not "get it right" on the first try, and that a strong project requires extensive research, multiple attempts and even some failures along the way.
I loved working on this, and the final result speaks for itself.
